As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread and devastate communities, leaving your home to grab groceries and medical supplies can be terrifying, much less leaving to have your hearing aids fixed or examined. Here at Preferred Hearing Centers, we’ve been striving to make hearing care accessible during this rough transition period.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve created guides to help you troubleshoot common hearing aid problems, and we’ve written up some must-have resources to help you determine if you need hearing aids or a hearing aid test. But, sometimes, that’s not enough. You might need a hearing specialist to fine-tune your hearing aid or calibrate it to work efficiently. These are services that you can’t perform on your own, but they may not feel “severe” enough to risk infection by visiting our clinic.

Luckily, you may not have to. Lately, we’ve been assisting patients in calibrating and fine-tuning their hearing aids remotely via ReSound’s Remote & Live Assist feature in the ReSound Smart 3D app.

Remote Hearing Aid Assistance

Most hearing aid manufacturers suggest that you get your hearing aids “tuned-up” at least once per year — sometimes quarterly. That may seem difficult during this period. If you’re over 65, have health conditions, or are immunocompromised, leaving your home for errands can already be scary.

Lately, we’ve been helping patients through ReSound’s 3D Remote & Live Assist Feature. This phone app allows you to pair your hearing aids via Bluetooth, and our hearing specialists can remotely answer questions and fine-tune hearing aids. Currently, Remote’s 3D Assist feature is capable of two primary features:

  1. Remote fine-tuning: Sometimes, hearing aids just sound off. From volume fluctuations to high pitch noises and physical discomfort, hearing aids need to be adjusted semi-regularly to prevent tuning issues. These hearing issues can cause headaches and be disorienting. Unfortunately, some patients are avoiding tuning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You shouldn’t have to live with discomfort. The Remote & Live Assist feature on ReSound’s app allows us to see hearing aid data directly and fine-tune your hearing aids from anywhere in the world. You stay at home; we’ll get those hearing aids calibrated again.
  2. Live assistance:  The ReSound 3D app also lets you set up virtual appointments with our hearing specialists from the comfort of your home. We’re working diligently to provide flexible, at-home care whenever it’s feasible. ReSound is currently one of the best-working solutions on the market for these virtual appointments. You’ll get a real-time video feed directly with our specialists who can answer questions, solve small issues, and give you guidance on any hearing issues you may be experiencing.
